The Unkindest Cut: Countdown to a C-Section
This story reflects so many experiences I have had in the hospital, and not just one hospital; literally all over the puget sound region. I have had positive experiences as well, but this is more commonly what I consider myself up against when I am working with a client planning a birth in hospital, or occasionally on a transport from a home birth or birth center birth. This is a big part of the reason why comprehensive childbirth education is so essential. It is critical that clients know how to determine when they are being "managed" and when there is a true indication for an intervention. I do love that this particular hospital is contracting Doula's, but I'm a little concerned about the risk of control; anytime we are being hired by the hospital they have some degree of influence. I knew an instructor who was terminated for offering too much information in the hospital childbirth education class.
